DIY Festival: with @Leila_sews

6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Event Details

Leila Kelleher, the patternmaker for Muna and Broad (an independent sewing pattern company) will discuss how to get started sewing your own clothes to fit your body and gender expression. Selecting patterns, measuring your body, basic equipment (and how to obtain this for low or no cost!), sustainable sewing,  and attaining basic sewing skills will be covered and we will leave plenty of time for a Q and A. Sewing your own clothing empowers you to take charge of how you present your style, personality, and expression to the world.

Leila Kelleher (she/her)

Leila is the patternmaker and one half of Muna and Broad, an independent sewing pattern company that centres and empowers large bodies. Her patterns focus on fit and are designed to delight the maker with interesting construction details and techniques. Leila studied fashion production and worked in the custom clothing industry and wardrobe for film and theatre before changing careers. She holds a PhD in Biomechanics (the science of human movement) and is a professor of Biomechanics.  Leila combines her knowledge of the human body with her expertise in fashion production to create sewing patterns that provide a great fit for large bodies.
