If you’re working on a novel but you don’t really know your main character or characters, if they don’t feel like real people to you, you won’t be able to write a convincing, engaging story. Marissa discusses how to create characters who feel “real”, and how to get to know these people you’ve come up with. Also, some discussion about convincing, real-sounding dialogue with fun ways to put it into practice during the workshop.
Interactive/Takeaway element: Students will be sent a Proust-style questionnaire for their character developed by Marissa to fill out on their own. These questionnaires can be used for all characters, not just protagonist.
