Atefeh (Ati) Zarabadi was born and raised in Qazvin, known as the calligraphy capital of Iran. She learned traditional calligraphy in 2004, at the age of twenty from professional masters in her hometown. She moved to Canada in 2010 to pursue her grad studies at the University of Waterloo. Ati rediscovered her love for calligraphy art once she began showcasing her works by holding workshops and exhibitions at events organized by the Coalition of Muslim Women (CMW) as well as the Art Gallery in Kitchener Waterloo. She is motivated by employing art as an efficient tool to strengthen the bonds within a diverse community. Ati was recognized for her artistic accomplishments and received the "Women Who Inspire" award from CMW in 2020.
