Join director Esther Jun as she shares insight into her
direction for the Stratford Festival’s 2021
production of I Am William, a joyful musical for young people with text
by Rébecca Déraspe and music by Chloé Lacasse and Benoit Landry (which will be
presented in an English Translation by Leanne Brodie).
I Am William tells the imagined story of Margaret Shakespeare, a young writer of great skill and imagination who, with the help of her brother William, navigates a dangerous time to become one of the world’s greatest writers.
Esther Jun originally trained as an actor in NYC and completed her directing degree at Drama Centre London in 2006. She currently is an Artistic Associate in Planning at The Stratford Festival and was the Assistant Artistic Director at Tarragon Theatre from 2016-18. Esther was part of the 2020 & 2016 Michael Langham Workshop for Classical Direction at The Stratford Festival, and was the 2015 Neil Munro Intern Director at the Shaw Festival.

The Stratford Festival is transforming, for this summer, into an outdoor festival offering a season of six plays and five cabarets reflecting on the theme of Metamorphosis, with performances held under beautiful canopies that will hark back to the Festival’s founding under a tent back in 1953.
