Money Matters is a free financial literacy program for new immigrants and refugees. It is a course taught by trained TD Canada Trust volunteers. Learn about budgeting, banking basics, credit, and borrowing, RESPs, and other ways to save.

This is a 4 week program. You will be registered for all 4 sessions. Dates include:

What is financial abuse? Financial abuse is theft of money, property or personal information. It can also include the misuse of money or property, or withholding funds. It’s usually a pattern rather than a single event, occurring over a long period of time and it may not be detected until funds are severely depleted. Financial abuse can negatively impact your health by reducing the resources available for proper housing, good nutrition, medication and healthy connections.

Identity Theft and Fraud Prevention

 

Identity theft is the crime of stealing another person’s identifying information for the purposes of getting money or credit in their name. It may involve making purchases on somebody else’s credit card or getting a personal loan. Fraud occurs when an identity thief uses stolen personal and banking information to get money or credit using someone else’s identity. According to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, in 2014 about 42 000 Canadians reported some form of mass marketing fraud. The CAFC estimates that this fraud costs Canadians about 75 million dollars a year.
