As part of Science Literacy Week across Canada, the University of Waterloo, in partnership with the Kitchener Public Library, invites you to a timely public lecture discussing transportation with two leading researchers .
As conversations on the topic continue to expand, these experts will explore Waterloo’s several methods of transportation, including the technology behind superconducting trains, and the implications that could arise from increasing the sophistication of transportation in our city.

David Hawthorn
Associate Professor for the Department of Physics and Astronomy, UW
David will share what superconductivity is, how it can be used for magnetic levitation and resistance free electrical conduction, and how these properties are used in magnetically levitating trains.
Jeff Casello
Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies – Faculty of Environment and Associate Professor for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and School of Planning.
Jeff will share his expertise in planning, design and operations of public transportation systems with a focus on balanced transportation within the Waterloo Region.
